The MoM is used for shaped pattern synthesis to estimate the excitation coefficients or the weights vector required to provide deep nulls towards the interfering signals and directs the main beam towards the desired signal. Based on the estimated DOAs, a dedicated shaped pattern version of the ordinary pattern is created and applied as the desired input to the MoM algorithm. The DOA is used to provide accurate estimates for the directions of the desired and interfering signals. The proposed algorithm is denoted as DM/ABF which stands for DOA and MoM based Adaptive Beamforming. It is based on a combination between the direction of arrival (DOA) estimation and the method of moments (MoM). In this paper, a new non iterative adaptive beamforming algorithm for signal to interference and noise ratio (SINR) enhancement is proposed. The most important process in smart antenna systems is the adaptive beamforming (ABF) as it directs the array pattern towards the desired direction and at the same time nullifying the interfering signals coming from other directions. Moreover, the simulation results indicate that the antenna gain of 3 dBi over the whole operating bandwidth. The measurement results show that the proposed antenna has-10 dB impedance bandwidth of from 4.8 to 5.59 GHz.

Method of moments Patch#

A systematic investigation of the effects of bending applied on wearable patch antennas over cylindrical surfaces is presented via extensive simulations performed using FEKO software based on both the CMA and the Method of Moments (MoM). This optimizes the needed time and resources in the design process, in contrast to the conventional optimization approaches made using full-wave 'trial and error' simulations on a complete antenna structure. The shape optimization is simplified, as the substrates' influence and excitation are first excluded. This work characterizes and estimates the final shape of the patch using the CMA method aimed at obtaining the required resonant frequency. The proposed antenna has a simple structure with an overall size of 0.74 λg × 0.74 λg × 0.06 λg (guided wavelength at 5.5 GHz). Four characteristic modes with the same resonant frequencies and orthogonal current distributions are chosen for operation. The modal behaviors of the proposed antenna are investigated by using the theory of characteristic modes analysis (CMA).
